ISRC Open day in June 2008.
ISRC Open day was held on 6th June 2008 in
MPI. The topic was "Safe, Secure and Sustainable
Communications". The purpose of the open day was to exhibit
our latest research outcomes to the publics and also sketch
future research hot topics and trends in the IT filed. Three
main keynote speeches were giving to audience including
students, government agencies and local enterprises.
Prof. Cuthbert's talk summarised the
latest researches and outcomes from the centre, he also
introduced the lasted research hot topic: sustainable
communications, which concentrate on how to reduce the
energy consumed by modern wireless communication networks.
Dr. Bigham gave a talk about the current e-government
security project, the latest results and outcome was
discussed. Mr. Li from Nokia Simens Network also gave an
interesting talk about WiFi Mesh network, which can provide
city wide WiFi coverage without having to build expensive
core networks.
keep tuned for future research open days!
STDF visited ISRC and audited
the "Protecting e-Government" project.
On 24th September, 2007, STDF visited our
lab and audited the "Protecting e-Government" project. After
we presented the latest progress and system demonstrations
to the auditors, the auditors gave us highly positive
feedback and recognized our efforts. The security project is
a 2-year project which is partially founded by STDF and aim
to build a novel security safeguard system protecting Macao
e-Government. The project started in January 2007.
ISRC exhibited at Macao
Technology Week 2007
ISRC has always been active in local
development of information technology. We joint MPI as one
of the exhibitors of 2007 Technology Week of Macau. We
presented our latest research outputs including live demos
to the public, which interested by many visitors.
ISRC exhibited its
research outcome at CHTF ShenZhen
ISRC along with MPI will exhibit its latest
research outcomes at the
China Hi-Tech Fair 2006 (CHTF), on 12th - 17th, October
2006. CHTF is a state-level, grand
international fair and is held annually in fall in Schenzhen
since 1999. The CHTF consists of four primary activities:
the commercialization of technological innovation,
specialized show, the China Hi-Tech Forum and year-round
business matching services.
ISRC along with MPI exhibition stand showed the latest
research outcomes and also live demonstrations to the
audience.
Xu
Yang won the first ever NCAF Paper Competition in UK:
Xu Yang won the first ever Natural
Computing Applications Forum (NCAF) Student Paper Competition
in 14th September 2006. This competition was open
researchers worked in the “Natural Computing” field. Papers
reviewed by a panel of judges from Industry and Academia, and
two finalists were selected to give their final presentations
in Bristol meeting. The delegates in the audience scored the
paper in four different aspects: problem definition, results
and solution, presentation, and defense. Xu was adjudged to be
the winner. She was awarded a certificate and a £150 book
voucher as the prize.
Xu proposed an approach for learning call
admission control (CAC) policies in a cellular network that
handles several classes of traffic with different resource
requirements. She is the first person to apply a form of
NeuroEvolution algorithm to inductively learn the CAC
policies. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed
scheme is capable of achieving CAC goals in the presence of
smoothly varying arrival rates of traffic, in which the state
space is too huge to do in practice for the other learning
scheme.
ISRC
Won 1.3 Million Security Project:
ISRC has won 1.3 Million Patacas fund from Science and
Technology Development Fund (STDF) of Macao, the fund was for
a project that will build a intelligent security system which
can protect e-Government from fraud and cyber attack.
ISRC
participates the joint MPI exhibition stand at Macao
Hi-Tech Exhibition
The Macao Hi-Tech exhibition along with the
21st China Adolescents Science Technology Invention Contest (CASTIC)
was held in Macao 5-6 August, 2006. The ISRC along with MPI
took part in the exhibition. At the exhibition, the ISRC
exhibits the latest research outcomes by posters as well as
live demonstrations. Many people paid interests in our demos.
It was a good opportunity for exploitation of our research
work.
